Going Live

It's been an age since starting to get this blog ready for others to read / chance upon / whizz by.
So, here it is, complete with errors, broken links, missing images and an imperfect format.
My hope - rather than plan - is to put up short articles fairly often.

Nearly there

On 28 October I have this site almost ready for publication. What's left is more about appearance than structure. Plastering more than putting in floors, wiring or windows.
Under reconstruction

For numerous reasons I am moving my blog to a new web host and changing from WordPress to a different CMS.
It will take a while (writing at 19 September 2025) but hopefully not as long as I fear.
While not a compulsive writer, I think I have things to share. At minimum I will enjoy the process.
Back soon!

Choose the short cut

As a rambler I am keen that public footpaths remain open and used. When a map shows a way, it should be there.
The other day the map—so I thought—showed a track next to a river that allowed access to tracks in the wood that lay between me and our holiday base. The day had been great that far, wind and showers not clouding the joy of being in the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) again.

It turned out, though, that the riverside track did not meet the track inside the wood; a wall of dense vegetation lay ahead and a steep bank of mature trees frowned at the river, the promised track somewhere up there.
So, what to do? Retrace my steps and use public roads to get to base? Or, as my tired brain suggested, clamber up through the trees to the promised woodland track? Yes, a clear choice.
Forty five minutes later I emerged with blood dripping off my hand, my whole body regretting the short cut through brambles, healthy wild holly and multitudinous obstacles alive and dead.
What was saved in metres was paid for in minutes.
Lessons:
- Check a map carefully. Know what it means.
- Short cuts may not be the best option. Stick to what the map tells you.
- Think if this is an analogy to the Christian walk.
